Gematria vs Numerology

People search both terms when they want number-meaning tools. They overlap — but they are not the same workflow.

Gematria

Assigns values to letters using a chosen cipher (Ordinal, Reduction, Reverse, Chaldean, Jewish-style systems, and more). Practitioners compare totals across names, headlines, and events.

Numerology (common popular form)

Often reduces birth dates and names into single digits or master numbers (11, 22, 33) for personality / destiny style readings. Some “Pythagorean” name charts look similar to Reduction gematria — which is why the words get mixed up.
