How gematria calculation works

Gematria assigns a number to each letter, then adds those numbers. The method is simple. The confusion is that there is not one mapping — there are many, and they are not interchangeable.

Choose a cipher (Ordinal is the usual starting point: A=1 … Z=26).
Ignore spaces and punctuation, or strip them the same way every time.
Look up each letter, then sum.

The ciphers people actually search

English Ordinal / Simple — A=1 to Z=26. Baseline.
English gematria (Sumerian ×6) — A=6, B=12, … Z=156. What many sites label “English.”
Jewish / Agrippa gematria — Hebrew-inspired English mapping used in decoder tools. Classical Hebrew gematria on aleph-bet is a different (older) system.
Reverse Ordinal — Z=1 to A=26. Used as a cross-check against Ordinal.
Chaldean — 1–8 name-vibration mapping, no 9 in the primary alphabet values.
